Obama Girls Wear J.Crew on Inauguration DayMalia and Sasha Wear Outfits Designed Just for ThemFor weeks, people have been speculating on what Obama's children would wear on Inauguration Day. The wait & anticipation is finally over! The winner? J.Crew of course!
The trend-setting First Daughters dazzled the nation's capital wearing outfits designed by J.Crew. According to the retailer's website, Malia and Sasha Obama wore outfits specifically designed for them from J.Crew's children's line, Crewcuts. A message on J.Crew's website (www.jcrew.com/index.jsp) says, "We are truly honored to have been able to play a part in this historic occasion." What They WoreTen-year old Malia wore a blue jacket with a black scarf and gloves, while seven-year old Sasha stood out in a guava colored coat with orange gloves and scarf. Both girls also wore ribbons tied around their waists that matched their outfits. The retailer says the clothing designed specifically for the First Daughters and are not currently available for purchase. J.Crew does say "highlights" may be available in Fall 2009 collection. Inauguration Day wasn't the first time Sasha and Malia wore J.Crew. The retailer says the girls wore clothing from its children's line at the "We Are the One Concert" which aired on HBO the weekend before the Swearing-In ceremony. Mom's a Fan TooIt isn't just Sasha and Malia who are fans of the J.Crew line either. It appears First Lady Michelle Obama is loyal to the designer as well. The olive green leather gloves she wore during the Inauguration Ceremony were made by J.Crew, as was the olive green cardigan she wore at the Kid Inaugural Concert where kids rocked out to songs performed by Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. All this the day before her husband, Barack Obama, was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. In fact, Mrs. Obama even wore J.Crew while on the campaign trail. Last October, she wore a yellow sweater, skirt, and blouse by J.Crew on the "Tonight Show." Comedian and host, Jay Leno, said he had no idea what it meant to wear a J.Crew ensemble. Mrs. Obama replied, "We ladies we know J.Crew. You can get some good stuff online." She went on to say, "When you don't have time, you got click click on." She was referring to the limited time she has to shop while helping her husband campaign for President of the United States. The entire outfit, the retailer said, cost less than $340. J.Crew Sales SkyrocketSince the Obama's have worn J.Crew, sales for the clothing have increased. After the appearance on the "Tonight Show," JCrew.com says web traffic increased more than 60-percent. And once word spread on Inauguration Day that the Obama women were wearing J.Crew once again, the retailer's website actually shut down because so many people were trying to purchase look alike fashions.
