The custom-made clothing worn by Barack Obama's children are already inspiring eager parents to duplicate the style for their own daughters.

Sasha and Malia Obama are taking their mother's lead, enjoying sleek and attractive J. Crew clothing that compliments their personalities perfectly. Both first daughters donned coats and dresses on Inauguration Day made by Crewcuts, the children's clothing line of the popular retailer. Malia was stunning in a bright periwinkle blue coat, and her little sister Sasha was equally lively in pale pink and orange—a color combination that is unexpected yet striking.

Influential Children in the White HouseSasha and Malia Obama, ages 7 and 10 respectively, will be just as influential in the fashion world for the next four to eight years as their mother Michelle. Additionally, all of their likes and dislikes will be scrutinized by the press and relayed back to eager youth both nationally and abroad. Thrust into the spotlight at such a young age, the Obama children will be subjected to the same tough criticism as all celebrities.

Change Can Happen in Young Girls' Fashion

President Obama won't be the only one with change on his mind. Famous children and young adult stars always influence the fashion trends of America's youth. The smart, sensible choices worn by the Obama girls at President Barack Obama's Inauguration were refreshingly appropriate for their age. These young ladies may swing the direction of tween and teen fashion away from the revealing, sleazy styles of Brittany Spears and other female stars in her wake.

Retail Sales Boost During Tough Economic Times

There's no doubt that the loyalty the first family has for J. Crew will boost its sales. The company is already getting busy with its new marketing opportunity. A message at J. Crew online states, "We are truly honored to have been able to play a part in this historic occasion. The pieces worn by Malia and Sasha were designed exclusively for them—from the colors to the styles to the fabrics..."

J. Crew won't be unique in receiving a vote of consumer confidence, however. Retailers with anything to offer today's youngsters, from clothing to toy stores to electronics, may also gain a much-needed financial stimulus over the next presidential term, as Sasha and Malia grow (and consume) in front of millions of children around the nation and the world.

The day after the Inauguration event, the J. Crew website was so inundated with visitors that it crashed. However, obsessed consumers will need to wait, perhaps until the fall, for the genuine Obama outfits to be made available--and there is no promise that they ever will be. No worries, though. There are sure to be knock-offs coming soon at bargain prices.
